## Problems this solves

- Your tender documents use the same three photos you have used for years
- Your website shows a stock factory that is obviously not yours
- Staff in the photos left the company two years ago
- The brochure designer has nothing wide enough for a full-bleed spread
- Photos of your workshop look dark, cluttered and orange
- You need images that prove you can actually do the work

## Key facts

- Half day from £295 + VAT, full day from £495 + VAT
- Covers premises, teams at work, machinery, process, vehicles and completed projects
- Shot on location, working around your production schedule and site rules
- Landscape 16:9 banners, 4:5 social crops and A4 portrait covers planned from one shot list
- Usage licence written into the quote; copyright assignment available on request
- Model releases for identifiable staff, recorded for UK GDPR purposes
- Travel beyond Mansfield and Nottinghamshire is added to the quote

## What commercial photography is for

Commercial photography is the umbrella term for images a business uses to win work. For a manufacturer that means the shop floor, CNC machines, welding, quality checks and finished parts. For a builder or installer it is completed jobs, vans and crews on site. For a professional services firm it is meeting rooms, reception and people working together. For a charity it is volunteers and the services in action.

The common thread is proof. Buyers, tender panels and job applicants look at your photos to judge whether you are real, organised and capable. A stock photo of a smiling handshake tells them nothing. A clean, well-lit picture of your actual team doing the actual work tells them a lot.

Fresh photos also date-stamp your business. Old vans with a previous logo, a machine you sold three years ago or a team member who has since left all quietly suggest nobody is paying attention. Most firms benefit from a refresh whenever the premises, fleet or branding changes.

## Planning the shoot around your site

Commercial sites have rules, and a good shoot works with them rather than against them. Before the day we agree:

- **Safety:** PPE, induction, restricted areas, and whether staff in shot must be wearing hard hats, hi-vis, gloves or eye protection. A photo of someone grinding without goggles is a problem in a tender.
- **Confidentiality:** customer parts, drawings on screens and whiteboards that cannot be shown.
- **Timing:** when machines are running, when the yard is tidy, when natural light is best through the windows.
- **People:** who is happy to be photographed, and who needs to sign a model release.

We then write a shot list grouped by area, so a half day moves from reception to office to workshop without doubling back.

## Shooting for every format you will use

One image rarely fits everywhere. A website hero is usually a wide 16:9 or wider banner with empty space on one side for text. An Instagram or LinkedIn post works best as 4:5 portrait. A brochure cover is A4 portrait, and a double-page spread needs a landscape image wide enough to bleed off both edges. An exhibition stand graphic may be printed two metres tall, so it needs the full resolution of the camera and careful focus.

We shoot key scenes both ways and leave room around the subject so your designer can crop. Mixed lighting is a common problem in workshops: daylight from windows, warm tungsten and green-tinged fluorescent tubes in one frame. We balance it at the shoot and in editing, so white walls look white and skin tones look natural.

## Copyright and the tender problem

Under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 the photographer is the first owner of copyright, even when you commissioned the shoot. That rarely matters until a main contractor asks you to supply images for their own bid document, or a distributor wants to use your photos in their catalogue. If your licence only covers your own marketing, you would technically need permission to pass them on.

The fix is simple: tell us at the quote stage where the images may end up. dijitul writes a licence wide enough to include partners, resellers or bid submissions, or assigns copyright in writing if that is what you need. Either way it is agreed before the shoot, not discovered afterwards.

## Prices and next steps

Commercial photography is priced by time on location: a half day from £295 + VAT or a full day from £495 + VAT, with travel beyond Mansfield and Nottinghamshire included in the fixed quote. Heavy retouching, such as removing cables or cleaning up a cluttered yard, is quoted at £45 an hour + VAT. If you would like footage of the same processes, our video production can run on the same visit. For manufacturers, see our wider design for manufacturers page, or get in touch with your site and what you need shown.

## What you get

- Edited high-resolution JPEGs for print and presentations
- Web-optimised copies sized for banners and service pages
- Wide landscape frames with space for headline text
- Portrait crops for brochure covers and social posts
- Signed model releases for featured staff
- Written usage licence covering web, print, tenders and adverts

## FAQs

### What is commercial photography?

Commercial photography is photography a business uses to sell or win work: premises, staff at work, machinery, process, vehicles and completed projects. dijitul shoots it on location for websites, brochures, tenders, adverts and recruitment, from £295 + VAT for a half day.

### Can you photograph a working factory safely?

Yes. dijitul agrees PPE, induction requirements, restricted areas and confidential items with you before the day, and follows your site rules throughout. We also check that staff in shot are wearing the right protective equipment, because unsafe practice in a photo can count against you in a tender.

### Can our customers or partners use the photos?

Only if your licence allows it. Under UK copyright law the photographer owns the images by default, so passing them to a distributor or main contractor needs permission. dijitul can write a licence that covers partners and resellers, or assign the copyright in writing, as long as you tell us at the quote stage.

### Is a half day enough for our business?

A half day suits a single site with a focused shot list, such as reception, an office, one workshop and a few staff portraits. Multiple buildings, vehicles or processes that only run at certain times usually need a full day from £495 + VAT. dijitul helps you plan the shot list so the time is used well.

### Do staff need to sign model releases?

For commercial use we recommend it. A model release records which images a person agrees to and where they can be used. Because identifiable photos count as personal data under UK GDPR, a release also helps you answer questions if someone leaves and asks about their picture.
