## Problems this solves

- Your charity number is missing from half your leaflets
- Volunteers keep making posters in different fonts
- The annual report is a 40-page Word file nobody reads
- Older supporters say the print is too small
- You are rebranding and worry the new name is too close to another charity
- Donation forms look dated next to bigger charities

## Key facts

- Fundraising leaflets from £95 + VAT; brochures from £295 + VAT
- Registered charity statements built in to meet section 39 of the Charities Act 2011 in England and Wales
- Scottish charity details laid out to the Charities References in Documents (Scotland) Regulations 2007
- Fundraising Regulator badge placed only from the official artwork, for registered organisations
- Clear print layouts following RNIB guidance: 12 pt minimum, ideally 14 pt
- Event photography from £295 + VAT for a half day

## The wording the law asks for on charity materials

In England and Wales, section 39 of the Charities Act 2011 applies to registered charities whose gross income in their last financial year was over £10,000. They must state that they are a registered charity, in legible characters, on notices, adverts and other documents that ask for money or property, and on invoices, receipts, cheques and orders. Most charities do this with a line such as 'Registered charity number 1234567' in the footer.

Scottish charities follow the Charities References in Documents (Scotland) Regulations 2007, administered by OSCR: documents such as adverts, official publications and anything soliciting money must show the charity's registered name, any other name it is commonly known by, its Scottish charity number and, where applicable, that it is a charity. Cross-border charities often need both. We build a statement block into every template, so the volunteer who makes next month's raffle poster cannot leave it off.

## Names, rebrands and the Charity Commission

A rebrand often starts with a working name. Section 42 of the Charities Act 2011 lets the Charity Commission direct a charity to change its name, or stop using a working name, if it is the same as or too like another charity's name, gives a misleading impression of a connection with government or another body, or is offensive. Before we develop a new name into a logo, we suggest checking it against the Register of Charities and Companies House.

Our rebranding work keeps your registered name visible where the law needs it, even when supporters know you by a shorter working name. Logos start from £150 + VAT and a full brand identity pack from £395 + VAT.

## The Fundraising Regulator badge

Organisations registered with the Fundraising Regulator can show its fundraising badge on donation pages, appeal letters, envelopes, direct debit forms, collection buckets and adverts. The regulator's guidelines say to use the original artwork and not recreate it, and not to use the badge when fundraising on behalf of an organisation that is not registered. Unregistered organisations displaying it will be asked to remove it.

We place the badge only from the files in your registration pack, at the sizes and clear space the guidelines set out. Fundraising materials should also follow the Code of Fundraising Practice, so we keep asks clear, avoid pressure tactics in the layout and make it easy to find how to opt out of future contact.

## Readable, accessible print

Many supporters are older, and some have sight loss. RNIB's Clear Print guidance recommends a minimum of 12 pt, ideally 14 pt, applied to everything including captions and footers, and RNIB defines large print as 16 pt or bigger. We use strong contrast, left-aligned text, uncoated or silk stocks that reduce glare, and avoid placing text over busy photos.

For digital, we supply annual reports as tagged, accessible PDFs as well as print files. Annual report design is quoted as a fixed price or charged at £45 an hour + VAT; a short impact summary on a single leaflet from £95 + VAT often gets read more widely than the full report.

## Templates for volunteers and photography for campaigns

Charities rely on volunteers making their own materials. Rather than banning that, we give them editable templates for posters, social posts and event flyers with the logo, fonts, colours and charity statement locked in place. That protects the brand and the legal wording, and saves your staff from fixing well-meant posters at the last minute.

Real photography of your work, volunteers and beneficiaries is more persuasive than stock. We shoot event photography from £295 + VAT for a half day, with travel quoted outside Mansfield and Nottinghamshire. Make sure you have consent from anyone identifiable, especially children and vulnerable adults, before their photo is used in fundraising.

## FAQs

### Do charities have to show their charity number on leaflets?

In England and Wales, a registered charity with gross income over £10,000 must state that it is a registered charity on fundraising documents, invoices and receipts, under section 39 of the Charities Act 2011. Most show 'Registered charity number' with the number. dijitul builds this into every template.

### What must a Scottish charity show on its materials?

Under the Charities References in Documents (Scotland) Regulations 2007, a Scottish charity must show its registered name, any other name it is commonly known by, its Scottish charity number and, where applicable, that it is a charity, in legible characters on adverts, publications and fundraising documents. dijitul lays this out as a standard footer block.

### Can we use the Fundraising Regulator badge on our appeal?

Only if your organisation is registered with the Fundraising Regulator. Its guidelines say to use the original badge artwork and not recreate it. dijitul places the badge from your official registration files, at the sizes and spacing the guidelines specify, on donation forms, letters and web pages.

### How much does a charity leaflet cost to design?

dijitul designs leaflets from £95 + VAT and brochures from £295 + VAT, while annual reports are quoted. You get a fixed price before we start. Printing is not included unless quoted, but we can arrange it and quote it alongside the design.

### What font size should charity materials use?

RNIB's Clear Print guidance recommends a minimum of 12 pt, ideally 14 pt, for all text including captions and footers, and defines large print as 16 pt or bigger. dijitul designs charity materials to these sizes, with strong contrast and no text over busy images.

### Can the Charity Commission make us change our name?

Yes. Section 42 of the Charities Act 2011 allows the Charity Commission to direct a name change if the name is the same as or too like another charity's, suggests a connection that does not exist, or is offensive. dijitul suggests checking a new name against the Register of Charities before designing a logo.
