# Amazon Product Image Requirements (UK Sellers)

Updated: 2026-10-12

> Amazon main images must show the product on a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255), filling about 85% of the frame, with no text, logos, watermarks or props that are not included. Files should be JPEG, TIFF, PNG or GIF, ideally over 1,000 pixels on the longest side. dijitul shoots compliant product images from £25 + VAT per image.

## Key facts

- Main image background must be pure white: RGB 255, 255, 255
- The product should fill 85% or more of the image frame
- Images must be 500 to 10,000 pixels on the longest side; over 1,000 enables zoom
- Accepted formats: JPEG, TIFF, PNG and non-animated GIF; JPEG preferred
- No text, logos, watermarks, borders or inset images on the main image
- Amazon's seller team recommends at least six images and one video per product

## The main image rules

The main image is the one shoppers see in search results, so Amazon is strict about it. Based on Amazon Seller Central's product image requirements and guidance posted by Amazon's seller support team (checked October 2026), the main image must:

- Show the **actual product** for sale, as a photograph, not an illustration or render of something different.
- Sit on a **pure white background**, RGB 255, 255, 255. Off-white or light grey can trigger suppression of the listing.
- Have the product **fill 85% or more** of the frame, fully in view and not cropped.
- Contain **no text, logos, watermarks, borders, colour blocks or inset images** added on top.
- Show **only what is included** in the purchase. Props or accessories that do not come with it are not allowed.
- Be in focus, well lit, realistically coloured and free of pixelation or jagged edges.

Some categories, such as clothing, shoes and jewellery, have extra style rules. Check the style guide for your category in Seller Central before shooting.

## Technical file requirements

| Requirement | Amazon rule |

| Size | 500 to 10,000 pixels on the longest side |
| Zoom | Over 1,000 pixels on the longest side recommended |
| Formats | JPEG (.jpg or .jpeg), TIFF (.tif), PNG (.png), non-animated GIF (.gif) |
| Colour | sRGB or CMYK; sRGB gives the most reliable white |
| Quality | Clear, no pixelation or jagged edges |

In practice we deliver square images at 2,000 × 2,000 pixels or larger in sRGB JPEG. That gives good zoom detail, keeps file sizes manageable and suits Amazon's square image slots.

## Secondary images: where you sell

The extra image slots are where you persuade the buyer. Amazon's seller support team recommends at least six images and one video per product. Secondary images can include lifestyle settings, text and graphics, so use them to answer the questions that otherwise lead to returns:

- **Scale**: the product in a hand or next to a familiar object, with dimensions marked.
- **Details**: close-ups of materials, stitching, connectors or labels.
- **In use**: the product doing its job in a realistic setting.
- **Features**: infographic images with short callouts explaining benefits.
- **What is in the box**: everything laid out clearly.
- **Comparison**: sizes, variants or colours side by side.

Keep text on infographics large enough to read on a phone, since most shoppers browse on mobile. Our infographic design service covers these.

## Common reasons images get rejected

- Background that looks white but measures 245 or 250 rather than 255.
- Shadows or reflections that make the edges grey. A soft natural shadow is usually fine; a grey floor is not.
- Product too small in the frame, often from shooting wide and not cropping.
- A promotional badge, such as a sale flash or award logo, added to the main image.
- Packaging shown with extra items that are not included.
- Low-resolution photos taken on a phone in poor light.
- A different product variant shown from the one in the listing, such as the wrong colour.

Amazon scans images automatically, so a listing can be suppressed without warning. Check your listings in Seller Central after uploading, and keep the unedited originals so you can re-export quickly if a rule changes.

## Can I take my own Amazon photos?

You can, with a light tent, two diffused lights and careful editing to clip the background to pure white. The hard part is consistency across a range and handling reflective items such as glass, metal and gloss packaging. If your listing is losing sales to competitors with sharper images, professional product photography usually pays for itself. See how much product photography costs.

## FAQs

### What background does Amazon require for the main image?

Pure white, with RGB values of 255, 255, 255. Amazon checks this, and off-white or grey backgrounds can lead to a listing being suppressed. dijitul edits main images so the background measures true white while keeping a natural edge on the product.

### What size should Amazon product images be?

Amazon accepts 500 to 10,000 pixels on the longest side and recommends over 1,000 pixels so the zoom feature works. dijitul usually supplies square sRGB JPEGs of 2,000 × 2,000 pixels or more, which give clear zoom detail without huge files.

### Can I put text or my logo on the Amazon main image?

No. The main image must not include added text, logos, watermarks, borders or inset images. Text, logos and infographic callouts are allowed on secondary images, which is where you should explain features, dimensions and what is in the box.

### How many images should an Amazon listing have?

Amazon's seller support team recommends at least six images and one video per product. Use the main image for a clean white-background shot, then use the rest for scale, detail, lifestyle, features and what is in the box.

### Does the product have to fill 85% of the image?

Yes, Amazon's main image guidance asks for the product to fill 85% or more of the frame. Shooting too wide is a common mistake that makes products look small in search results. Crop tight, but keep the whole product in view.

### Do you photograph products for Amazon outside Nottinghamshire?

Yes. dijitul is based in Mansfield and shoots on location. For businesses further away, travel is added to the quote. Product photography is from £25 + VAT per image, and you see the full price, including travel, before the shoot.
