Brochures that sell, not just inform
A brochure is often the thing a customer keeps on the desk while they decide. It needs to answer their questions in the order they ask them: what do you do, is it right for me, can I trust you, how much, and how do I get in touch. dijitul plans the page flow before designing anything, so each spread has one job. Product brochures, service guides, sales packs, prospectuses, property brochures and price lists all follow the same principle.
We work from your copy and photos, or we flag where words or images are missing. If you need photos taken, our commercial photography and product photography are priced separately.
Page counts, binding and sizes
Most brochures are saddle-stitched: folded sheets stapled through the spine. Because each sheet makes four pages, the total page count must be a multiple of 4, including the covers. An 8-page brochure is two sheets; a 12-page is three. Saddle stitching works well up to roughly 48 to 64 pages depending on paper thickness. Beyond that the stack gets too thick to fold neatly.
Longer documents are usually perfect bound, like a paperback, with a glued square spine. The spine width depends on page count and the paper's thickness (its caliper), so we get that figure from your printer before finishing the cover. Perfect binding also eats a few millimetres of the inner margin, so we keep text further from the gutter.
On thicker saddle-stitched jobs the middle pages push outwards when folded, called creep. Good printers compensate in imposition, and we leave enough margin that nothing important gets trimmed.
| Size | Trim (mm) | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| A4 portrait | 210 × 297 | Product and service brochures |
| A5 portrait | 148 × 210 | Price lists, guides, handouts |
| A4 landscape | 297 × 210 | Photo-led and property brochures |
| 210 mm square | 210 × 210 | Lookbooks and premium ranges |
Paper and finish choices
A common setup is a 300 gsm silk cover with matt lamination and 150 gsm silk inner pages. It feels solid without being expensive to post. Uncoated stock suits a natural or eco brand and takes a pen if people need to fill something in. A spot UV logo or foil title on the cover adds a premium touch; each needs a separate artwork layer, which we supply. Heavier paper adds postage cost, so if you mail brochures in bulk, check weights against Royal Mail price bands before choosing.
Print and digital from one design
The print file and the email PDF are not the same file. The print version is large, in CMYK, with bleed and full-resolution images. The digital version is in RGB, compressed and has working links to your website, phone number and email. We supply both. If the brochure will also sit on your website as a page rather than a download, our sister agency builds sites at dijitul.uk.
How a brochure project runs
It starts with a short brief: who the brochure is for, where it will be used, the size and page count you have in mind, and any brochures you like the look of. We then send a page plan, a simple list of what goes on each spread, so you can see whether the content fits before any design time is spent. Next comes a design for the cover and one inner spread to set the style, then the full layout. You check a PDF proof, mark changes, and we finalise and export the print and digital files. If your printer has a template or a preferred PDF setting, we use it.

Frequently asked questions
How much does brochure design cost in the UK?
dijitul designs brochures from £295 + VAT. The fixed price depends on page count, the amount of copy and any charts or tables. You get the quote before we start, and printing is priced separately if you want us to arrange it.
Why does my brochure page count have to be a multiple of 4?
Saddle-stitched brochures are made from sheets folded in half, and each sheet gives four pages. So 8, 12, 16 and 20 pages work, but 10 or 14 do not without a blank or an insert. dijitul helps you plan content to fit the right count.
Should my brochure be saddle-stitched or perfect bound?
Saddle stitching (staples) is cheaper and suits up to roughly 48 to 64 pages, depending on paper. Perfect binding gives a square spine you can print on and suits thicker documents. dijitul will recommend one based on your page count and budget, and get the spine width from your printer.
Can I get an interactive PDF version too?
Yes. dijitul supplies a compressed RGB PDF alongside the print file, with clickable links to your website, email and phone number. It is small enough to email and works on phones.
Do you write the brochure copy?
dijitul works mainly from copy you supply, and we will shorten, structure and add headings so it fits the layout. If you need copy written from scratch, tell us in the brief and we will quote for it as design time at £45 an hour + VAT.
