Per image or per day?
Product photographers in the UK use two main pricing models:
- Per image. Best for clean packshots on white for websites, Amazon, eBay and catalogues. You know the cost per product angle before the shoot.
- Half or full day. Best for lifestyle shots, styled scenes, people using the product, or large ranges where the number of shots is hard to predict.
dijitul's product photography starts from £25 + VAT per image. For lifestyle or location work our photography rates are from £295 + VAT for a half day and from £495 + VAT for a full day. We shoot on location, at your premises or another suitable space, and travel beyond Mansfield and Nottinghamshire is added to the quote.
What the UK market charges
Bark, the online marketplace for finding local services, publishes a UK commercial photography price guide (checked October 2026). It gives a typical range of £160 to £410 per day, with an average of £185 to £200 a day. Per-image prices are less well documented because they depend so heavily on the product, the number of angles and the amount of retouching.
When you compare quotes, check whether the price includes editing and background cleaning, how many angles count as one "image", and whether you get high-resolution files for print as well as web-sized versions.
What pushes the price up
- Difficult surfaces. Glass bottles, polished metal, jewellery and glossy packaging reflect everything around them and need careful lighting and retouching.
- Very small or very large items. Rings and electronic components need macro work; furniture needs space and more lighting.
- Multiple angles. Amazon allows several images per listing, so front, back, side, detail and scale shots each count.
- Styling and props. Lifestyle scenes need props, set-up time and often a model.
- Heavy retouching. Removing dust, fixing labels or compositing several shots into one adds editing time. See photo editing and retouching.
- Infographics. Adding dimensions, feature callouts or comparison charts to secondary images is design work rather than photography.
Getting images that marketplaces accept
If you sell on Amazon, the main image must show the product on a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255), filling about 85% of the frame, with no added text, logos or watermarks. Amazon accepts images from 500 to 10,000 pixels on the longest side and recommends over 1,000 pixels so shoppers can zoom. Our Amazon product image requirements guide covers the full rules.
Ask your photographer to deliver at least 2,000 pixels on the longest side in sRGB JPEG for web and marketplaces, plus full-resolution files for print catalogues.
How to keep costs down
- Send a shot list per product: which angles, which variants, and where each image will be used. Our guide to briefing a photographer explains how.
- Have products clean, labelled and ready, with packaging removed if you do not want it in shot.
- Group similar products so the lighting set-up only changes once.
- Decide early whether you need lifestyle shots or just packshots. Mixing both is fine, but it changes whether per image or day pricing is better value.
- Think about reuse. One well-lit set of images can serve your website, Amazon, social media, a printed catalogue and trade show graphics if it is shot at full resolution with space around the product for cropping.
Cheap photos are rarely a saving if they have to be reshot. Uneven backgrounds, colour casts that make products look a different shade, and images too small to zoom all lead to returns and lower conversion, which costs more than doing it properly once.

Frequently asked questions
How much does product photography cost per image in the UK?
It varies with the product, angles and retouching needed. dijitul photographs products from £25 + VAT per image for clean shots, with a fixed quote based on your product list. Reflective, transparent or very small items usually take longer, which the quote will reflect.
Is it cheaper to pay a day rate for product photography?
For large ranges or styled lifestyle shots, often yes. dijitul's photography day rates are from £295 + VAT for a half day and £495 + VAT for a full day. For a handful of simple packshots, per-image pricing from £25 + VAT is usually better value.
Do you have a photography studio?
No. dijitul shoots on location, at your premises or another suitable space, so we bring the shoot to the products. Travel beyond the Mansfield and Nottinghamshire area is added to the quote so you see the full cost up front.
Does the price include editing?
Standard colour correction and cleaning up the background for a white-background packshot are part of producing a usable product image. Heavier retouching, such as compositing or rebuilding damaged labels, is quoted separately or charged at our £45 an hour + VAT design rate.
What file sizes will I receive?
dijitul supplies high-resolution JPEGs for print and web-ready versions sized for your platform, typically at least 2,000 pixels on the longest side for marketplaces so the zoom feature works. If you need TIFF or PNG files, tell us in the brief.
Can you make my photos Amazon compliant?
Yes. We shoot and edit main images to Amazon's rules: pure white background, product filling about 85% of the frame, and no text or watermarks. We can also design the secondary infographic images that explain features and dimensions.
