Graphics for the website you already have
Not every website needs rebuilding. Often the structure is fine but the graphics are tired, inconsistent with a new brand, or too heavy for the page to load quickly. This service is for that: new visual assets that drop into your existing WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace or custom site.
We design hero images and homepage banners, promotional and seasonal banners, category and collection headers, service icons, small illustrations, blog header images, trust badges and the share images that appear when someone posts your link on social media. If you need a complete new website instead, the main dijitul agency designs and builds them at dijitul.uk.
Fast-loading images: formats and sizes
Images are usually the heaviest part of a web page, and the hero image is often what Google measures as the Largest Contentful Paint. Google's web.dev guidance says a good Largest Contentful Paint is 2.5 seconds or less, so a 4 MB hero photo is a real problem. We export every graphic with weight in mind:
- WebP or AVIF for photographic images: modern formats that are much smaller than JPG at similar quality, supported by current browsers.
- SVG for logos, icons and flat illustrations: tiny files that stay crisp at any size.
- PNG only where transparency is needed and SVG isn't suitable.
- Two sizes for most images, standard and double-density, so your developer or platform can serve the right one with srcset.
- Sensible maximum widths: a full-width hero rarely needs to be more than about 2560 px wide.
All screen graphics are RGB in sRGB, which is what browsers expect.
Designing banners for phones first
Most website platforms crop a wide banner differently on a phone, often cutting off the sides. A headline placed on the left of a desktop banner can disappear entirely on mobile. We handle this in one of two ways, depending on your platform:
- Separate desktop and mobile images, which Shopify themes and most page builders allow, with the text set for each.
- Text as live HTML over a background image, so the words reflow instead of being cropped. This is also better for accessibility and search.
Either way we mark a focal point so the important part of the photo stays in view, and we check contrast so overlay text stays readable against the image.
Share images, icons and alt text
When someone shares your page on Facebook, LinkedIn or WhatsApp, the platform shows an Open Graph image. Facebook's developer documentation suggests around 1200 x 630 px, and the same size works well elsewhere. Without one, the platform guesses, often badly. We design a default share image for your site and templates for blog posts, keeping text large and central so it survives each platform's crop.
Service icons are drawn as a matching set; see icon design for how we build them. For each graphic we also suggest alt text that describes its purpose, which helps screen reader users and gives search engines context. Photography for your site, such as products, premises or team headshots, is covered by our product photography and headshot photography services.
Where you have product or team photos already, we can retouch, crop and colour-match them so they sit comfortably alongside new graphics, rather than every image on the site looking like it came from a different source.

Frequently asked questions
How much do website graphics cost?
dijitul designs website graphics at £45 an hour + VAT and quotes a fixed price before starting. The price depends on how many banners, icons and images you need and whether each needs separate desktop and mobile versions.
What size should a website hero image be?
For a full-width hero, about 1920 to 2560 px wide is usually enough, exported as WebP or AVIF to keep the file small. dijitul also supplies a separate mobile crop so the headline and focal point stay visible on phones.
Which image format is best for websites?
WebP or AVIF for photographs, SVG for logos, icons and flat illustrations, and PNG only when transparency is needed and SVG won't work. dijitul exports each graphic in the format that gives the smallest file at good quality.
Can you design graphics for my Shopify or WordPress site?
Yes. dijitul designs graphics to the sizes your theme or page builder uses, including separate mobile banners where Shopify and WordPress themes support them, and names the files clearly so they're easy to upload.
What is an Open Graph image?
It's the picture shown when someone shares your web page on social media or in messaging apps. Facebook's developer documentation suggests around 1200 x 630 px. dijitul designs a default share image for your site and templates for blog posts.
Do you build websites too?
dijitul media focuses on graphics for existing sites. Full website design and builds are handled by the main dijitul agency at dijitul.uk, so if your site needs more than new graphics, we can point you there.
