Design for Merthyr Tydfil businesses
Two ironworks, Cyfarthfa and Dowlais, once made Merthyr Tydfil the biggest town in Wales and a world leader in iron. The ironmasters' castle at Cyfarthfa still looks down over it. After decades of rebuilding, Merthyr now has a mix of manufacturing, public services, care and a growing outdoor tourism economy.
Manufacturers on the Pentrebach and Goat Mill Road estates, in engineering, automotive components, electronics and food, are mostly small and medium firms. They often need practical design: 2D drawings tidied up from sketches, 3D models for quoting, product photography and a simple brochure that shows what they can make. Budgets are tight, so it makes sense to start with the pieces that win work.
Outdoor tourism is the newer story. BikePark Wales on the hills above the town draws mountain bikers from across the UK, and Bannau Brycheiniog to the north brings walkers and adventure visitors. Outdoor activity businesses need logos that work on kit and vehicles, leaflets, trail maps and action photography and video for social media.
- Small manufacturers: CAD drawings, product photography, brochures
- Outdoor activity businesses: logos, maps, leaflets, action video
- Care providers: brochures, recruitment adverts, signage
- Retailers at Rhydycar: posters, window graphics, social graphics
- Start-ups and trades: logos, business cards, van graphics
Between Prince Charles Hospital and the many local care homes, health and care employ a large share of the town. Care providers need brochures, recruitment campaigns and honest photography of their homes and teams.
Improved roads, including the dualled A465 Heads of the Valleys road, have brought Merthyr closer to the Midlands and Swansea. That encourages start-ups and trades who need a professional first brand at a sensible price, with clear fixed quotes so costs are known before anything starts.
