- Companies House must be told if a company changes its registered name

- Update digital profiles on the same day for a clean launch

Before you start: checks and decisions
- Why are you rebranding? New services, a merger, a move upmarket, or a dated look. The reason decides whether you need a full rebrand or a lighter logo redesign.
- Name change? If so, search the UK IPO trade marks register and Companies House, and check domain names and social media handles are available. See how to trade mark a logo.
- What to keep. Colours or symbols customers recognise may be worth keeping.
- Budget and timing. Decide what changes on launch day and what is phased.
Start by walking round your business and scrolling through every online profile, writing down everywhere the old brand appears. Most businesses find far more items than they expected: an old sign at the back gate, a logo on a payment page, a sticker on every product. A complete list is the basis for an accurate budget and a realistic launch date.
Identity and master files
- Logo suite in AI, EPS, SVG, PDF and PNG (see logo file formats)
- Colour palette in Pantone, CMYK, RGB and HEX
- Typefaces, with licences for print and web
- Brand guidelines for staff and suppliers
- Tone of voice notes if your messaging changes
- Written copyright assignment for the new logo (see who owns the copyright)
Get these finished and approved before ordering anything else. Every later item, from a van wrap to a social post, is built from these files, so changing the logo or colours after roll-out starts means paying for work twice.
Print and physical touchpoints
- Business cards, letterheads, compliment slips and envelopes, with correct legal details (see letterhead rules)
- Invoices, quotes, delivery notes and order forms
- Leaflets, brochures, price lists and menus
- Shop fascia, door vinyls, office and site signs, banners
- Vehicle livery
- Uniforms, workwear and PPE
- Packaging, labels, swing tags and stickers
- Exhibition stands and pop-up banners
- Merchandise and promotional items
- Rubber stamps, ID badges, lanyards
Physical items are where most of the rebrand budget goes and where lead times are longest. Get quotes for signage and vehicle wraps early, and check whether any signs need landlord or planning consent before they change.
Digital touchpoints
- Website: logo, colours, favicon, social sharing images and any old logo images in blog posts
- Google Business Profile logo, cover and photos
- Social media avatars, cover images and pinned posts on every platform
- Email signatures for all staff
- Email newsletter templates
- Word, PowerPoint and Google templates
- Online directories, marketplaces and review sites
- Apps, booking systems and payment pages that show your logo
- Video intros, YouTube channel art and thumbnails
If your website needs more than a logo swap, our main agency at dijitul.uk handles website design and builds.
Admin and launch
- Tell Companies House of a registered name change, and update HMRC, your bank, insurers and suppliers.
- Brief staff before launch so they can answer customer questions.
- Tell customers why: a short email or social post explaining the change builds goodwill.
- Set redirects if your domain changes.
- Order print in the right sequence: use up old stock where legal details have not changed, but replace anything with an old company name immediately.
- Keep a master list of every touchpoint and tick them off. Something is always found weeks later.
A month after launch, search online for your old name and logo. Directory listings, supplier websites and old social accounts often still show the previous brand and need a polite request to update.

Frequently asked questions
What should be included in a rebrand checklist?
Legal checks on any new name, the new identity files and guidelines, and every touchpoint: stationery, documents, signage, vehicles, uniforms, packaging, website, social profiles, email signatures and templates. dijitul can help list and design every item, from £395 + VAT for the identity.
How much does it cost to rebrand a small business?
It depends on how many touchpoints you have. The identity itself starts from £395 + VAT with dijitul, stationery from £75 + VAT and social graphics from £99 + VAT. Signage, vehicles and packaging are quoted separately, and printing is extra.
Do I need to tell Companies House if I rebrand?
Only if the company's registered name changes. A new logo or trading style does not need notifying. If you trade under a name different from your registered name, your letters, emails and website must still show the registered company details.
Should I change everything at once?
Digital items such as website, social profiles and email signatures should change on the same day so customers see one look. Physical items such as signs, vans and uniforms can be phased as budget allows, provided legal details are correct on everything.
How do I tell customers about a rebrand?
Keep it short and explain why: new services, a merger, or a fresh look that better reflects the business. Send an email, post on social media, and brief staff. Reassure customers about anything that is not changing, such as contact details or service.
Is a logo refresh cheaper than a full rebrand?
Usually. A refresh keeps the recognisable parts of your logo and modernises the drawing, colours or type. dijitul can quote a logo redesign or work at £45 an hour + VAT, and it may avoid replacing every item at once.
